Castle Rock is a tranquil oasis situated just south of Denver. Its central location offers easy access to the area’s most serene open spaces, as well as the amenities and cultural attractions of downtown Denver.

 

The neighborhood’s history can be traced back to a train depot, which linked the community to the Denver and Rio Grande Railway. The depot’s main function was unloading supplies for ranchers and shipping rhyolite stone from the three local quarries, as well as cheese from the dairy farms in the surrounding area. The depot is now home to the Castle Rock Historical Museum on Elbert Street, where visitors can relive the nearly 140 years since the town's inception.

 

Locally quarried rhyolite stone is incorporated into many of the district’s earliest buildings. Today, residents are careful to retain the area’s historic charm and quaint character, and rhyolite remains a material of choice for decorative rock work, reflecting the town’s rich history and adding to its distinct character.

 

The town’s identity stems not only from the namesake rock but also from the scenic natural landscape that surrounds the area. Castle Rock boasts nearly 90 miles of trails, 50 immaculate parks, and more than 6,000 acres of open space.

There’s no shortage of entertainment options and community activities and events in this tight-knit town. Many street festivals are hosted in the historic downtown, known as the heart of Castle Rock, which also boasts unique shops and dining destinations.

There are a plethora of events hosted in and around the community, including the Castle Rock Starlighting festival and Castle Rock ArtFest. Situated in the heart of downtown, Festival Park plays host to community events like First Fridays and the Western Heritage Welcome. The park also features a large pavilion, two fire pits, a splash pad, and a picnic area. Stock up on fresh fruits, vegetables, and other products from local farmers, ranchers, and bakers at the farmers market, held each weekend from June through October.
